Television / Books / Radio

STAR TREK, TWILIGHT ZONE and OUTER LIMITS were the three shows that made me want to be a writer when I was a kid, and as I researched those shows I got to know the names of the writers – Theodore Sturgeon, Harlan Ellison, Richard Matheson, Rod Serling, Charles Beaumont, Ray Bradbury, George Clayton Johnson.

All of them wrote not only great TV scripts, but also wonderful books and movies, including LOGAN’S RUN, THE SEVEN FACES OF DR. LAO, I AM LEGEND, PLANET OF THE APES, SOMEWHERE IN TIME, THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN, SOMEWHERE IN TIME and many more.

This helped greatly in shaping my ambitions, and ever since I started writing I’ve divided my work between film, TV and books – and radio, too, as I always loved great radio shows from the 1930s to the present.  (Note:  if you haven’t checked out I LOVE A MYSTERY, X MINUS ONE, Norman Corwin’s ON A NOTE OF TRIUMPH or the BBC’s JOURNEY INTO SPACE I urge you to do so immediately.)

Often I’d utilize the same project in numerous media.  For instance, MAGIC TIME started as a TV pilot, then was published in a bestselling trilogy of novels and audiobooks, now has been translated into a radio play and soon will be a web series, television show and comic book/graphic novel.

Often these projects begin as projected TV shows or movies and find a home immediately or after many years.  That’s part of the fun – you never know where an inspiration will lead.

So here are a collection of items from my excursions in film, TV, books and radio.  Go where you like.  I hope you’ll find diversion, delight, maybe even a little inspiration.
